Every smock we sell is One Size, cut for an adult man. The garment measures 50 to 56 inches across the chest and 30 to 34 inches in length, which fits a 36 to 52 inch chest comfortably.
The fit, stated honestly
There is no S/M/L/XL here, and that is not a limitation we are apologising for. A fugu has no waist, no closure and no darting. It is a rectangle of hand-woven cloth with an opening for your head. It drapes rather than fits, which is exactly why one cut covers a range that would need four sizes in a shirt.
If you are outside 36 to 52 inches, send us your measurements and we will have it woven to fit. No extra charge. Chest, shoulder to shoulder, and the length you want, measured from the top of the shoulder down. That is all we need. Full details on our size guide.
How to size it
Measure the chest of a shirt you already like, laid flat, and double it. If that number lands between 36 and 52, order the standard.
Then decide how you want it to sit. Most men wear a fugu with a good amount of room, sleeves ending at the mid-forearm and the body ending mid-thigh. Taller men, over about 6'2", often prefer the custom length so the hem does not ride high. Say so when you order.
What to wear underneath
A plain crew or v-neck cotton tee, in a color that disappears. White under a light ground, black under a dark one. Nothing with a collar, because a collar fights the neckline.
Below: dark trousers, straight cut, no break. Traditional wear is the wide kurugu trouser, but tailored black or navy trousers look right and are what most men outside Ghana already own. Leather sandals or plain loafers. No trainers with a Presidential Elite piece.

What men buy them for
Weddings, mostly, either their own or standing up in someone else's. Then naming ceremonies, funerals, graduations, church, Independence Day on 6 March, and increasingly Wednesdays, since Fugu Day was designated in February 2026.
