Hand-Woven Fugu Smocks and Batakari
Everything here starts on a narrow loom in northern Ghana. The cloth comes off in strips about four inches wide, and a tailor sews them edge to edge. That is where the check comes from. Men's smocks are One Size and fit a 36 to 52 inch chest, with free made-to-measure outside that. The women's smock dresses come in three cuts and in sizes S to XXL. Each hat is wrapped from the same cloth as a matching smock. Prices are in US dollars, shipping from Ghana is a flat $15 to anywhere, and every smock and smock dress comes with a digital Certificate of Authenticity.

Yes. We ship from Ghana to anywhere for a flat $15, free over $350, with tracking. Most orders reach the US or UK 5 to 10 business days after dispatch.
How do sizes work across the shop?
Men's smocks are One Size, for a 36 to 52 inch chest, and we weave to your measurements free outside that. Smock dresses come in S, M, L, XL and XXL. Hats are One Size.
How can I tell a smock is hand-woven?
Turn it inside out. Hand-woven strip cloth has a seam every few inches, running the full length. Every smock and smock dress we sell also comes with a digital Certificate of Authenticity, attached to your order email and saved in your account.

Every smock on this page was woven by hand on a narrow loom in Northern Ghana, then stitched together by a tailor. Nothing here is printed. Nothing here came off a roll.
That matters more than it sounds. A hand loom in Tamale produces cloth about four inches wide, so a single smock is a stack of strips sewn edge to edge, and the check you can see is what happens where the stripes of one strip meet the stripes of the next. It is a pattern made by construction, not by a printer. Run your thumb across the hem and you will feel it: woven closed, never frayed.

The three tiers, and what separates them
Heritage Classic, $155 to $179. Fifteen colorways. Clean solids, quiet two-tones and clean stripes: white, grey, taupe, brown, bronze, crimson and black, slate and black. Fewer strips, straightforward weave. This is the smock you wear on a Wednesday because you feel like it. It is also the right first one.
Signature Profile, $185 to $215. Nineteen colorways. Higher strip count, so the check is finer and the cloth has more body. This is where the patterned pieces live: Brown Check, Blue Patchwork, Grey and Pink, Black and Yellow, Sand and Black, Lime and Black. More loom hours, more precision in the joining, because a check that does not line up across the seam ruins it.
Presidential Elite, $225 to $250. Fourteen colorways. The top of the range: densest strip count, hand embroidery at the neck and chest, supplementary-weft inlay, gold-thread accents on pieces like Blue and Gold, Black and Gold, Navy and Gold. These are woven by the most senior people we work with, and they take 10 to 21 days. We are not going to pretend otherwise at checkout. If you need one for a date, order early.
